Meet the Author
Mary Alice Barksdale is an Associate Professor in Elementary Education at Virginia Tech. A Virginia native, Mary Alice would listen to her grandmother tell Molly’s story often. Mary Alice has received two Fulbright Scholar awards, the first in Russia and the second in South Africa. She also worked extensively in Malawi. Mary Alice’s interests include children’s literature, literacy education, teacher education, global education, and social justice.
Donna Jessie Fogelsong is an Assistant Professor of Practice in Elementary Education at Virginia Tech. Donna has spent most of her life in Virginia and taught previously in the elementary grades. She currently works with preservice teachers in literacy and social studies. She’s interested in teacher education, literacy education, listening literacy, global education, and social studies literacy.

Meet the illustrator

Emily grew up in the hills of western New York. She spent many summers visiting her grandmother’s house in Virginia, where she loved to sit on the porch and watch the fireflies. She studied illustration at Brigham Young University before moving back to the East Coast. She loves to read books for kids and grown-ups, sing, dance, and play video games.
