Written by L. Meredith Averitt

Author and licensed veterinarian L. Meredith Averitt puts her own twist on the classic Christmas song, “The Twelve Days of Christmas.” In this collection of children’s stories, travel back in time to China’s Forbidden City, visit the Aztecs, catch a boat to the Port of Antwerp, race in the Iditarod, and take a spaceship to Camp Mars, all with your favorite four-legged friends. Each tale comes with an original doggy song set to the music of a favorite seasonal tune. “The Twelve Days of Christmas”? This year, it’s Twelve Dogs a-Howling!

Meet the Author

Meredith grew up in the Washington, DC, area. Ever since she was young, she’s loved writing stories and lyrics, and she’s also loved animals, science, and helping people. Meredith went on to attend college and veterinary school at the University of Tennessee. Her career has been a rewarding one, but it’s left little time for pursuing the other loves of her childhood—until now. Over the last few years, Meredith has become involved in breeding and showing dachshunds. When she started writing songs about her family of dogs, that old dream of becoming an author returned. Twelve Dogs a-Howling is Meredith’s second book.

Meet the illustrator

Kyrie Woodring is a graphic designer and illustrator based in Las Vegas, NV.  After a childhood spent daydreaming and doodling in the margins of classwork, she attended Virginia Commonwealth University and graduated with a BFA in communication arts in 2015. While working out of Richmond, VA, for a few years and subsequently relocating to build her career, she has completed design work, art direction, and branding efforts for local and national brands in the food packaging space, as well as contract work where her true passions lie—in narrative and children’s illustration. When she isn’t providing creative solutions for clients, you can find Kyrie seeking out inspiration and unforgettable experiences by hiking, camping, kayaking, and bouldering anywhere with a grand view and fresh air!
