Life Is Here, and I Have Been Away $9.99$24.95

written by Sheena Jeffers

On a frigid November night at high tide, a young woman unties the dock lines and watches the land recede as the sailboat she’s standing on floats out to sea. She has a jacket, a scarf, and a deep need to reinvent herself. Living Tidal is part adventure, part love story: a coming-of-age memoir that captures the hearts and minds of readers with each page. Journalist Sheena Jeffers addresses the curiosity, self-doubt, and the desire we all have to deeply experience the world as we embark on the lifelong journey to know ourselves.

____

Hang around any boat ramp at the end of a holiday weekend and you’ll witness how boatlife can challenge any relationship. So few people could live aboard—much less endure a catamaran crossing—while putting a young relationship to the test. Sheena Jeffers allows us to stow away on her intimate and sometimes heartbreaking odyssey through the Caribbean and Central and South America. This sensory journey is part memoir, part adventure, part romance. Tightly woven into the fabric of Sheena’s journey are the women leaning into the wind as they offer kinship and service. From that first all-night radio conversation with a stranger, to the clicks of applause from a new community, to a couple seeking healthcare in a moment of dire need, to a mother and father’s desparate plea—Living Tidal will stay with you, even when it’s finally time to go home.”

Mary Franke, retired journalist and live-aboard boater

“A triumph! So tender and illuminating. A riveting journey of self-discovery. Living Tidal illuminates what is possible when you let go of fear and say ‘yes’ to adventure. Filled with heart, humor, and high-seas exploits, Jeffers’ evocative prose made me feel like I was right there with her on the sailboat. Her story shows that sometimes you have to leave behind the life you know in order to find out who you really are and what you really want out of life.”
