JOIN CELEBRATED PHOTOGRAPHER BILL DRAPER ON A WALK THROUGH THE SEASONS

Hollywood Cemetery was established in 1847 and designed by renowned Philadelphia architect John Notman in the popular nineteenth-century garden cemetery style. Set on 135 scenic acres overlooking the James River, its beautiful landscape and remarkable collection of mature trees have earned it a designation as a registered National Arboretum.

Hollywood’s Presidents Circle is the final resting place of Presidents James Monroe and John Tyler. Monroe’s Gothic Revival cast-iron monument, known as “the Birdcage,” was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1968, further enhancing the cemetery’s historic significance.

The cemetery is also the burial place of six Virginia governors, two US Supreme Court justices, prominent authors, suffragists, and many other notable Virginians. Today, it is one of Virginia’s most visited cemeteries, and its history, architecture, and natural beauty have earned it national recognition as one of America’s most treasured historic burial grounds.
