Endorsements

“This marvelous book not only teaches kids about trees and ecological concepts, such as invasive species, but also promotes the use of our five senses to smell, see, hear, touch, and taste. A great addition to any child’s library!”

—Margaret (“Canopymeg”) Lowman, National Geographic Explorer and author of The Arbornaut (2020, Farrar, Straus and Giroux)

“This is such a sweet introduction for children to the concept of saving our trees from invasive vines. The book illustrates how a community can work together for a worthwhile outcome. Blue Ridge PRISM also believes in the power of community partnerships. We hope this book will encourage young people to understand that they can make a positive difference in their backyard, in their neighborhood, in their town, and in our world.”

—Elizabeth Mizell, executive director, and Rowena Zimmermann, director of communications and outreach, Blue Ridge PRISM—a partnership for regional invasive species management in Virginia

Save the Trees is an important story about two friends who discover an invasive vine species overtaking the beautiful trees in their town. Fueled with a passion to save the trees, Ronnie and Leona don’t give up until they have enough volunteers to pick, pull, and pluck the unwanted plants. This book serves as a mentor text about the delicate balance of our ecosystem and how two kids with a cause can make a big difference.”

—Shannon Anderson, award-winning author and educator

“In an era when the news, especially news related to climate change, can be scary, this informative and empowering story shows how kids can have a positive impact on the ecology of their own community.”

—Nancy Striniste, founder of EarlySpace, LLC, and author of Nature Play at Home: Creating Outdoor Spaces that Connect Children to the Natural World
